North Charleroi man charged with receiving marijuana through the mail
CHARLEROI – A North Charleroi man was arrested Monday on charges he took possession of more than three pounds of marijuana in a package that had been intercepted by the postal service.
Washington County detectives arrested Teran N. Allen, 28, at an apartment building in Charleroi where the package was delivered to its front porch about 11:25 a.m. and later taken inside by Allen, court records allege.
The U.S. postal inspectors intercepted the priority mail package Saturday in Warrendale that was scheduled to be mailed to 705 Seventh St. in Charleroi, the Washington County drug task force noted in the affidavit.
A federal warrant was secured the Sunday to open the package, and the marijuana was discovered inside the parcel.
Allen, who was under surveillance, picked up the package eight minutes after it was delivered to the address, and he took it inside an apartment, a detective said.
A warrant was then served at noon to search the apartment, where investigators discovered two additional bags of marijuana and $1,000.
Allen, of 431 Liberty Ave., is charged with drug possession with intent to deliver, drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He is in Washington County jail on $100,000 bond set by District Judge Robert Redlinger.
