McKeesport man allegedly fights police in emergency room
A McKeesport man is facing charges following an alleged fight with police officers in Monongahela Valley Hospital’s emergency department early Saturday.
Carroll Township police said they found David A. Caudill, 34, in his vehicle stuck in a ditch just after 1 a.m. Saturday at West Monessen Street and Grant Road. Caudill allegedly told police that he had pulled over to make a phone call. Police said the vehicle was still in drive, and that they could smell alcohol on Caudill’s breath.
Police said they took Caudill to the hospital to get a blood test done. While there, Caudill repeatedly yelled that he was going to lose his job and that his mother was going to lose her house, according to the criminal complaint.
“I advised Caudill that it’s his fault, not mine,” a police officer wrote in the criminal complaint.
Caudill then allegedly jumped off the hospital bed, screamed profanity at the officer and “took an aggressive stance,” the complaint said. The officer said he grabbed Caudill to place him back into custody, but Caudill fought him. Together they rolled off the bed and onto the floor, the complaint said.
During the scuffle, Caudill allegedly punched the officer twice in the chest and threatened to beat him up, the complaint said. Caudill also allegedly ripped the officer’s shirt off before a second officer used a Taser on Caudill.
Caudill was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, two counts of disorderly conduct, driving under the influence of alcohol and harassment. He was arraigned Saturday morning by District Judge Joshua Kanalis and jailed on $10,000 bond.
