Police beat March 28
SOUTH STRABANE
Drug charges: Chaz Micha Crews, 28, and Christina Yumiko Stivers, 36, both of Wellsburg, W. Va., received drug charges following a traffic stop in South Strabane Township. State police said in the criminal complaint the pair was pulled over at Racetrack Road and the Interstate 79 North exit ramp. Crews was driving a black Subaru Impreza, owned by Stivers, with an expired inspection. Police reported smelling marijuana, and Crews related his driver’s license was suspended. Police searched the vehicle and discovered a small amount of marijuana, 15 empty stamp bags marked “DEVIL” and 19 unused needles, according to the complaint. Police also found a black purse in the vehicle containing 34 grams of marijuana, four stamp bags of suspected heroin and paraphernalia. Crews was charged with possession with intent to deliver, and Stivers received a felony possession charge. They were incarcerated in the Washington County jail Tuesday evening and arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka, who set bond at $10,000.

Child endangerment: Ryan Michael Zavada, 33, of Diane Drive, Washington, was charged with simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child. According to the criminal complaint, Zavada struck a young boy in the face with an open hand, causing welts, swelling and redness, March 24 at a residence on Parker Street in Chartiers. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. May 7 before District Judge David Mark.
