An altercation at the Dollar General in South Franklin Township Monday evening led to the hospitalization of a state trooper.

Ronald Martin Stimpson Jr., 31, of 1805 Park Ave., North Franklin Township, was charged and jailed for the assault on the trooper. He currently faces a felony aggravated assault charge, as well as misdemeanor charges for simple assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

According to the criminal complaint, police were dispatched to Washington Hospital about 7:45 p.m. Monday following reports that a trooper had been injured.

Trooper Samuel Apke told investigators he had gone to the Dollar General at 2180 Park Ave. due to a fight involving three people.

Two of the men involved, father and son Daniel J. Reilly and Daniel B. Reilly, complied with Apke’s orders to get on the ground.

Stimpson, however, did not, according to the complaint, and grabbed Apke’s hands and Taser when he tried to take Stimpson into custody.

Stimpson allegedly kicked Apke, who tried repeatedly to Tase Stimpson. Apke suffered an abrasion to his knee and red marks on his wrist, police said.

Both the elder and younger Reilly told police they had been involved in an altercation with Stimpson, and both suffered cuts and abrasions.

Stimpson was placed in Washington County jail and arraigned before District Judge David Mark, who set bond at $25,000.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. May 6 before District Judge Ethan Ward.
