A Monessen man is behind bars after allegedly cutting his sister during an argument.

Stephen Matinsky, 21, faces charges of aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment and public drunkenness. He was arraigned Monday morning.

The charges stem from an incident along Dennis Avenue in Monessen at 6 a.m. Sunday. Monessen police were dispatched to a call of a fight in the middle of the road, where a man threatened to shoot a woman, according to court paperwork.

When police arrived, they said they found Alexcia Matinsky with blood on both hands and forearms, and on her neck and clothing.

She reportedly told police she was involved in a fight with her brother, Stephen Matinsky, about his girlfriend. Police said Stephen Matinsky had attacked his sister and used different objects to cut her.

When police went to Stephen Matinsky’s home, his girlfriend reportedly told officers he was hiding in the basement. Police took him into custody without incident.

Alexcia Matinsky was transported to Monongahela Valley Hospital for treatment to the lacerations on her hands.

Stephen Matinsky was lodged in Westmoreland County Prison with bail set at $100,000. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for later this month.
