CANTON
Possession of stolen firearm: Stephen Reed Whipkey, 32, of 1936 Smith Township State Road, Smith Township, was charged with prohibited possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and several traffic violations by state police. According to the criminal complaint, police pulled Whipkey over about 9 p.m. Monday on Monarch Street for not having valid registration for his motorcycle. He was found to be in possession of a stolen firearm, which he is not allowed to have due to a 2004 robbery conviction, according to police. Whipkey was placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. June 11 before District Judge Traci McDonald.
MONESSEN
Theft alleged: Thomas Joseph Kovalak, 29, of 23 S. McKean Ave., Donora, is charged by city police with theft and receiving stolen property over allegations he stole $100 from Ed Karol about 12:30 a.m. May 15 at 1301 Park Manor Drive, court records show. A senior district judge issued the charges in a summons Thursday.
ROSTRAVER
Assault alleged: Robert Anthony Visco, 30, of 128 N. Water St., West Newton, is charged by Rostraver police with simple assault and harassment over allegations he injured the chest and hand of Samantha Davis during a struggle about 3 p.m. Sunday in a parking lot at 200 Sara Way, court records show. A senior district judge signed a warrant Tuesday for Visco’s arrest.
UNION
Assault alleged: Mark Evans, 58, of 6080 Pleasant Street, Union Township was charged with simple assault and harassment by Monongahela police Tuesday. According to the criminal complaint, Evans put his fingers in the eyes of Zachary Hulings and punched him in the mouth.
