Monongahela to get $344,000 in CDBG funding
MONONGAHELA – City Council is weighing its options about how to spend Community Development Block Grant money for 2020.
On Monday, Rob Phillips, assistant community development director for the Redevelopment Authority of Washington County, told council that Monongahela will be receiving $344,000 in CDBG funds for projects that benefit the community.
“In the past, you have used that money for projects such as street improvements, handicap curb cuts, home rehabilitation and parks and recreation initiatives,” Phillips said during a workshop meeting of the council. “There is an opportunity to use this funding for similar projects this coming year.”
Phillips noted that approximately 10 individuals are on a waiting list for home rehabilitation funding. To be eligible for CDBG assistance, applicants must own a home, meet income eligibility requirements and show that they are current with their taxes.
Council recently asked Phillips if the city could use some of the CDBG money to build a secondary maintenance garage. However, Phillips said the funds can’t go for that purpose because the city already has a maintenance garage.
The council is expected to submit its CDBG wish list to Phillips by its November or December meetings.
