Canon-McMillan offers emergency substitute teacher course
Canon-McMillan School District will host a virtual emergency substitute training class on Monday, July 26.
The school district said schools across the country are experiencing a severe shortage of certified kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers.
The virtual training course is being offered for those who hold a bachelor’s degree in any major from an accredited, higher-education institution but do not hold a Pennsylvania teaching certificate.
Everyone who completes the training course and required clearances will be able to substitute teach throughout the district for the 2021-2022 school year.
Substitute teachers can earn $100 a day and are eligible to participate in the Public School Retirement System.
Participants must pay a $30 registration fee by 2 p.m. Friday, July 23. Make checks payable to Canon-McMillan School District and bring to the administration office at 1 N. Jefferson Ave., Canonsburg, Pa., 15317.
All course materials will be sent on July 26.
The class will begin at 8 a.m., and participants can complete the course work at their own pace. A Q & A session will be held from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
