20-year-old killed in Sunday morning crash
A 20-year-old Washington man was killed in a one-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.
According to a report from Washington County Coroner Timothy Warco, Hunter Gene Hickle had been traveling south on Route 19 in Amwell Township about 6 a.m., when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree in the 600 block of Waynesburg Road.
Hickle, who was not wearing a seat belt, was the only person in the car, according to the report. He was pronounced dead at 7:03 a.m., and the cause of death is pending results of an autopsy.
State police said his vehicle also struck a log, road sign and utility pole south of Burt Lane. Ambulance & Chair EMS assisted at the scene, along with Lone Pine and Amwell fire departments, PennDOT and West Penn Power.
Hickle wrestled for three years at Trinity and accumulated a 25-23 record.
“He was a good kid,” said former Trinity head coach Mark Powell. “He always got into the van I was in, and we’d talk wrestling. It’s such a sad day.”
Another student, who wrestled for Waynesburg, was in a serious accident early Sunday morning.
Cole Homet was apparently on his way to Missouri to celebrate with Wyatt Henson at his graduation party. He lost control of his car and crashed, reportedly leaving Homet with a serious arm injury.
Homet, who is heading into his senior year, was a state runner-up at 138 pounds in Class AAA and was a key part of the Raiders winning the school’s first PIAA Class AAA Team Tournament title.
It was first reported Homet was in critical condition but a social media post Monday by his mother said he was improving.
