AHN customizes
Sweethearts, the heart-shaped “conversation” candies that are synonymous with Valentine’s Day, are being stamped with a customized sayings this month, courtesy of Allegheny Health Network.
In a nod to National Heart Month and the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” initiative, AHN is using the sweet treat to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease among women.
The candies have been emblazoned with special messages – such as “Ur heart is unique” and “Know your risks” – in an effort to reach patients and encourage women to schedule their annual heart-health screening.
The candies, in a green box labeled “Heart to Hearts,” are available in specially designed stands located in OB/GYN and primary care offices throughout AHN’s health system.
The stands also feature a QR code that connects patients to AHN’s heart screening resources and information to make an appointment.
Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year.
“Cardiovascular disease kills more women than all forms of cancer combined, and yet not even half of all women in the U.S. recognize that it’s their greatest health threat,” said Dr. Indu Poornima, a cardiologist and director of the AHN Women’s Health Center. “We’re extremely excited about this awareness campaign as the candy kiosks are an interactive, inviting way to reach women with this critically important call to action.”
