Penn Highlands Healthcare lifted masking mandates at its hospitals, outpatient facilities, long-term and personal care facilities, and physician offices on Monday.

“With COVID-19 community transmission levels and hospital admissions declining, the time is right to lift the mask mandate at our health system,” said Dr. Trina Abla, System Chief Medical Officer at Penn Highlands Healthcare.

Locally, Penn Highlands operates hospitals in Connellsville and Monongahela.

Alba said masks are still encouraged for those who are unvaccinated or immunocompromised, or those who care for someone at high risk. Penn Highlands employees and physicians will continue to wear masks in clinical settings where masks are typically required, she said.
