Participants of the annual Blue Ride, a fundraiser co-hosted by Pennsylvania Chapter 16 of the Blue Knights and Washington Lodge 164 Free & Accepted Masons, enjoy rumbling along the roughly 95-mile course through Washington County each summer.
But the riders (current and former law enforcement officers and their family and friends) gain even more satisfaction from the annual Blue Ride’s purpose: to raise money which is donated to southwestern Pennsylvania nonprofits and charities.
Throughout October and November, representatives from the Blue Knights and F&AM Lodge 164 travel throughout local counties to spread good will and present checks to organizations that work to make a positive difference in the community.
This year, the Blue Ride raised more than $75,000, which is being distributed to nearly 50 different area nonprofits.
Among the donations this year are: $2,000 Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania; $2,000 to Salvation Army in Washington; $1,000 to the Washington City Mission; $2,000 to Washington Christian Outreach; $1,000 to the Alzheimer’s Association; $2,00 to the Care Center in Washington; $2,000 to the Ronald McDonald House in Pittsburgh; $2,000 to Make-A-Wish; $2,000 to the Syria Shrine Transportation Fund; $2,000 to the Dyslexia Learning Center in Pittsburgh; $2,000 to the Fayette County Community Action Food Bank; $2,000 to Gifts for Kids in Fayette County; $1,000 each to Allegheny County Camp Cadet and Troop B Camp Cadet, which are sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Police; and $2,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Laurel Region of Fayette County.
