VetPets plans service dog fundraiser
VetPets of Southwestern Pennsylvania is having a cash bash fundraiser at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at South Franklin Township Fire Hall, 101 Jolly School Road.
Money raised will go toward helping veterans and first responders train with dogs to combat the invisible signs of war and workplace trauma.
“Our first responders don’t have enough support programs in our area and they do invaluable service to our community,” said Omar Brooks, executive director of VetPets of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
VetPets is a nonprofit organization with more than 20 volunteers that raises money and releases funds (in the form of grants) to help veterans and first responders adopt dogs for emotional support, work with therapy or service dog training partners to gain a sense of purpose, and provide mental health activities to combat the invisible signs of war.
Tickets are $30 (must be 21 to enter) and can be found at www.pavetpets.org/giveback. Interested people also can use Venmo @PA-VetPets and tickets will be mailed to them.
Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with a special surprise for those attending. Tickets include admission, food and drink.
There will be 80 auction items, plus cash payouts every 15 minutes with the grand prize winner receiving $1,000 at the end of the night.
The best decorated Halloween table wins a prize.
Certified service dogs that have been aided by past fundraising efforts, as well as puppies in training, will be on hand.
