SCI Fayette reports inmate death

The state Department of Corrections announced Thursday that an inmate at SCI Fayette was found dead in his cell over the weekend.

The inmate was 43-year-old James Jarzenski. According to a press release, Jarzenski was found unresponsive in his cell Saturday and pronounced dead by Brownsville EMS.

Jarzenski had been at SCI Fayette since 2021, and was serving a 13-to-30-year sentence for robbery in Venango County.

State police are investigating, and the cause of death will be determined by the Fayette County coroner.
