2000 Turkeys countdown to Thanksgiving continues

We are less than three weeks away from Thanksgiving, and the annual 2000 Turkeys campaign is in full swing.

Donations to 2000 Turkeys fund help to ensure Washington County families who rely on the Food Helpers of Washington County and Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner.

“We are just amazed with the outpouring of support that comes from the community to the 2000 Turkeys campaign. Without the efforts of 2000 Turkeys and the donors throughout western Pennsylvania who support us, we would not be able to provide Thanksgiving meals in our communities,” said George Omiros, president and CEO of Food Helpers.

Food Helpers serves 1,500 families at its 13 Washington County distribution sites – a 30% increase in demand over 2022 – and also distributes 1,650 boxes of food to seniors in Washington and Greene counties.

According to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, which operates pantries in Washington County, one in nine southwestern Pennsylvanians face hunger, as many families struggle to buy groceries while also paying utility bills and rent, or buying medication or other necessities.

We’re grateful for the Washington County residents, businesses, organizations, and schools that step up every year – for nearly 40 years – to help their neighbors in need. Every donation makes a difference, and we couldn’t do it without all of them.

This Week, Range Resources is sponsoring a challenge question for students. The first student with the correct answer will have a $500 donation made to 2000 Turkeys in his or her name.

Last week, 2000 Turkeys committee member Laural Ziemba, of Range Resources, said Range produces about 2.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day. A typical oven runs at 16,000 BTUs per hour, which is the same as 16 cubic feet of gas per hour. A typical turkey takes four hours to cook, meaning Range could cook 33 million turkeys through one day of natural gas production.

So here’s the question: How long would it take Range to cook 2000 Turkeys? Send your answer to RangeGoodNeighbors@rangeresources.com.

And, please mail in your donations to 2000 Turkeys, P.O. Box 2000, Washington, Pa., 15301.
