Two killed in Wharton Township crash

Two people were killed and several others injured in a two-vehicle crash in Fayette County early Sunday morning.

According to state police, the head-on collision occurred on Route 40 near its intersection with Hawes Road in Wharton Township just before 5:30 a.m.

The driver of one vehicle was declared dead at the scene, and a rear passenger in the same car died on the way to the hospital. Other passengers in the vehicle were flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.

The driver and passengers of the other vehicle were taken by ambulance to Uniontown Hospital.

According to police, all of the accident victims are foreign nationals and do not speak English. Police required an interpreter to conduct interviews.

State police did not specify how many people were involved in the accident, and no identities were provided.
