The acquisition of online casino and US sportsbook platforms by LeoVegas Group, an MGM Resorts International subsidiary, is seen as a significant milestone for the company which will have greater control over its technology ecosystem.

The financial arrangements of the deal to acquire Tipico have not been disclosed yet, and the purchase is set to be closed in the third quarter should conditions be met.

The U.S. sports betting and online casino market is worth billions of dollars every year, with regulatory changes across states helping with expansion.

U.S. consumers have more choice than ever before with licensed and offshore operators competing in an exciting and fast-moving industry. Bettors are able to shop around for the best deals and offers and can enjoy great gaming and betting for as little as a 10-dollar deposit, making them preferable to land-based options where budgeting is often not an option.

With competition hotting up across the country and beyond, MGM Resorts International’s acquisition of Tipico will give them a great advantage.

Not only will they get the online casino and sportsbook platforms, but the deal also includes the technology that runs them. This will facilitate the growth of the LeoVegas subsidiary which will operate the purpose-built proprietary sportsbooks across all brands and international markets except those that are exclusive to BetMGM’s venture with Entain.

Tipico’s European, American, and Colombian trading teams and management will move to LeoVegas, while Tipico’s U.S. operations will be wound down across Ohio, Colorado, New Jersey, and Iowa before the deal is complete.

The deal is set to have a major impact on MGM Resort International’s global gaming business according to Gary Fritz, the current MGM Interactive president. Having control over their technological ecosystem will give them far greater flexibility and decision-making capabilities.

This is great news for consumers who are already benefitting from stiff market competition for their custom. Developing technologies and crypto gambling sites are also beginning to influence the market and ensure the latest tech is being implemented to improve the gaming experience.

LeoVegas became a part of MGM in 2022 and has already completed the takeover of Push Gaming, a game developer that is set to expand the business’s slot game content and increase content production.

These moves alongside MGM’s recent partnership with Playtech underline their intention to expand and dominate the global digital gaming landscape.

Tipico has cemented itself as a sports betting tech leader in Germany and has recently appointed Axel Hefer as its new CEO. The company’s latest move should help to solidify its position and help them to achieve even greater growth.

MGM Resorts International is the largest casino company with an annual revenue exceeding $13 billion. The acquisition of Tipico by LeoVegad Group sees it join a long list of subsidiaries that cover the U.S., Dubai, Hong Kong, China, the UK, and other territories.

By investing in the tech side of things, MGM can secure its long-term future as one of the top online betting operators in the U.S. and beyond.
