Charleroi man faces more child porn possession charges

1 min read

A Charleroi man arrested last week for possessing child pornography faces more than 240 additional charges after investigators searched his phone.

Court documents allege that Travis Cleop Hughes III, 25, had 242 pictures and videos on his phone, two of which involved infants.

Charleroi Regional Police began investigating Hughes for sending and receiving child pornography in May. According to the criminal complaint, Hughes sat for an interview with police and claimed he was “working with the FBI” to catch online predators.

Police obtained a search warrant for Hughes’ phone the next month, but were unable to get past the security features at the time.

Investigators received the data from Hughes’ phone on Monday.

The charges filed against Hughes last week were the result of a separate investigation, and led to his arrest on Dec. 7.

Hughes was arraigned on the more recent charges Wednesday before District Judge Eric Porter, who set bond at $250,000 bond. Hughes is incarcerated in the Washington County jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Dec. 28.
