Monongahela Council approves budget with tax increase

By Paul Paterra 1 min read

There will be a slight increase in taxes in Monongahela in 2024.

City Council unanimously approved a budget for the coming year that increases millage from 7.5 to 8.25 mills. This marks the second straight year taxes have gone up in the city after the millage in the 2023 budget increased from 7 to 7.5 mills.

The 2024 spending plan lists revenues at $3,516,360 and expenses at $3,513,375, resulting in a surplus of $2,985.

“The price of everything has just gone through the roof,” said Tamie Gido, city clerk. “We were trying to work real hard (to avoid a tax increase). Nobody wants to do a tax increase, but unfortunately (we had to).”
