Canton Township man charged in kidnapping

1 min read

State police filed charges against a Canton Township man Friday after he was accused of kidnapping his son.

Michal John Wicobroda, 43, faces felonies of strangulation, kidnapping and endangering the welfare of children.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called to Wicobroda’s home in the 200 block of Festival Road at about 10:40 a.m. Friday. Court records accuse him of choking a woman in the presence of their two children.

Wicobroda left the home with their baby boy and the alleged victim’s cellphone. Police stated in the complaint that Wicobroda used the phone to text the woman’s friend that “he was going to turn himself in but she will never find their son.”

Washington County District Attorney Jason Walsh said Monday that the child since has been returned home safely.

Wicobroda also faces misdemeanors of simple assault and reckless endangerment. Online court records indicate he has not been arraigned on the charges.
