Washington man pleads guilty in couple’s drug deaths
A Washington man pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of drug delivery resulting in death in connection with the deaths of two people to whom he helped supply a deadly batch of fentanyl in 2021.
Lorenzo Brian Lloyd agreed to the negotiated plea deal that will come with a sentence of 2 to 4 years in jail, but he could face additional punishment as part of an open guilty plea to other charges of possession with intent to deliver and simple possession of drugs.
Judge Jesse Pettit accepted the plea, but will have the ultimate discretion on whether Lloyd should face more jail time above the agreed upon deal when he sentences him at 2:20 p.m. July 12 in Washington County Court of Common Pleas.
Lloyd, 37, was one of three men accused of helping to supply stamp bags of fentanyl to David and Nannette Dennick, who were found dead inside their Canton Township home Feb. 27, 2021.
Lloyd rejected a previous plea offer in March 2022 in which he would have faced a 5- to- 10-year prison sentence. While the negotiated deal Lloyd accepted Tuesday is less than that sentence, Deputy District Attorney John Friedmann said the punishment could ultimately be similar or more severe.
“We have an agreed upon sentence, which the victims’ family is OK with, as far as the drug delivery resulting in the death (charges),” Friedmann said. “The sentence on the remaining charges will be up to the court.”
Lloyd’s public defender, Rose Semple, declined to comment on the case until after her client is sentenced.
Lloyd has been held at the Washington County jail on $500,000 bond since his arrest in July 2021, so he will be given credit for time served.
State police said Nannette Dennick contacted Mitchell William Logan about purchasing heroin hours before the couple’s death. She drove with Logan to West Maiden Street, where stamp bags were purchased by Lloyd from Zaeshown Jaheim Kimbrew, police said. While she apparently had expected to purchase heroin, the bags contained only fentanyl, police said.
Kimbrew, 22, of Aliquippa, pleaded guilty in July 2022 to two counts of drug delivery resulting in death, and was sentenced to serve 6 to 12 years in prison. Logan, 31, of Washington, is free on unsecured bond while awaiting trial on his charges, according to online court records.
