Charleroi woman charged for vehicular assault in June crash
State police charged a Charleroi woman Thursday for her role in a June crash that injured multiple people.
Marcy Warren, 55, faces a felony charge of aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, as well as misdemeanors of reckless endangerment and driving under the influence.
According to the criminal complaint, the accident occurred at about 6:50 p.m. June 5 on Old 71 near its intersection with Zippay Road in Fallowfield Township. Charging documents state Warren was headed west at a high speed when she failed to negotiate a right turn and crashed head-on into an eastbound vehicle.
Kayden Weister, the driver of the opposing vehicle, was flown from the scene to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he was treated for two thoracic spinal fractures, a concussion and whiplash. The following day, investigators spoke with Weister, who said Warren was “nodding off” in front of him and “could not finish her sentences,” police wrote in the complaint.
Two passengers in Weister’s vehicle were also injured.
Warren was also flown to a Pittsburgh hospital with a wound to her head that required stitches. According to the complaint, police found empty bottles for medications that had been prescribed to Warren.
A toxicology report revealed that Warren tested positive for both buprenorphine, a pain killer, and benzodiazepine. Police said her license was also suspended at the time due to a previous DUI.
According to online court records, there is an active warrant for Warren’s arrest.
