Man in Monongahela SWAT standoff charged in Allegheny County murder
A Carnegie man who kept a SWAT team at bay for hours in Monongahela Wednesday has been charged in connection with a murder in Allegheny County.
Emmanuel Houghton, who turned 20 on Saturday, has been charged with criminal homicide, robbery, conspiracy and firearm violations in the death of 18-year-old Jordan Geiger in Ohio Township on Aug. 2, according to Allegheny County Police.
Also being charged with murder is Tyler Stewart, 22, who was apprehended by police Wednesday in Pittsburgh after a chase in Allegheny County that ended on Banksville Road.
Both Houghton and Stewart are being held in the Allegheny County Jail, pending preliminary arraignment, police said.
In Washington County, Houghton faces multiple charges related to Wednesday’s incident, including attempted homicide, aggravated assault, fleeing an officer and receiving stolen property. It started when Houghton led police on a chase through Monongahela and Union Township. Then, he holed up at a house on Marne Avenue without being apprehended.
Houghton was later reported to be at an apartment building at the corner of Third and Chess streets in Monongahela, and a second standoff ensued. Houghton livestreamed the standoff on Facebook, and when he could not be convinced to come out, a SWAT team used a battering ram, tear gas and pepper balls to get him out. Houghton was taken into custody about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday without incident.
