Four displaced following Elrama fire
A firefighter was injured Friday morning while rescuing a woman from the second story of a burning home.
According to Elrama Fire Department Chief Lenny Bailey, firefighters were called at 5 a.m. to 109 Fairview St. The house was engulfed in flames when crews arrived, and three of the four occupants had made it outside.
“We got here, and there was one female trapped on the second floor,” Bailey said.
Also in the house along with the woman was a man, their son and his girlfriend. The couple’s son was hospitalized for smoke inhalation. According to Bailey, the residents had family to stay with, and the American Red Cross was contacted for assistance.
Bailey said the firefighter was hospitalized, but did not identify him or which fire department he is with.
“He was burned pretty good,” Bailey said.
Crews spent a couple hours knocking down the fire, according to Bailey. He did not know what might have caused the fire. The state police fire marshal is investigating.
Also responding to the fire were departments from Finleyville, New Eagle, Jefferson Hills, Bethel Park, Blaine Hill and Elizabeth.
