The home of Lori Cossell, 53, and David Brooks Sr., 72, after a fire on Thursday, Aug. 1.

A state police fire marshal was unable to determine what caused a fire that killed two Dunbar Township residents.

Trooper Kalee Barnhart, public information officer for the Uniontown barracks, said Friday that police were also unable to determine where the fire started.

Barnhart said both of those determinations are unlikely that the ruling will change.

Lori Cossell, 53 and David Brooks Sr., 72, died in the Aug. 1 fire at 126 Hardy Hill Road. Firefighters were called to the multi-story home around 3 a.m., and found the bodies of Cossell and Brooks in an upstairs room.

No one else was injured in the fire, and police were able to save a dog that was in the basement.
