Donegal awards maintenance contract

By Karen Mansfield 1 min read

Donegal Township supervisors awarded a winter maintenance contract for road service to Steel Horse Diesel at a special meeting on Nov. 27.

Under the terms of the contract, the Washington-based company will be paid $100 per hour for snow removal, de-icing, and other road maintenance as requested by the township to maintain the township’s 69 miles of roads.

The company will use road equipment provided by the township.

The contract runs through April 15.

In September, supervisors laid off the township’s four-man road crew, saying the department had been underperforming.

The road crew, members of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 66, had been working under the terms of an expired contract since Dec. 31, 2022.
