Sheriff’s office warns of scam calls

1 min read

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning about a new scam.

According to the office’s Facebook page, people are receiving phone calls from someone identifying himself as Deputy Tony Andronas, calling about a “confidential matter.”

“Sheriff Andronas or staff are not calling people requesting a return phone call,” the post reads. The number being given for return calls is 724-490-8449, which is not the number for the sheriff’s office nor is it a Washington County number.

The sheriff’s office dealt with a scam in November in which multiple people reported receiving calls from a “Deputy Thomas” claiming to be from the warrant division and looking to collect unpaid fines. There is no Deputy Thomas in the sheriff’s office.

“We would like to inform our residents that our office will NEVER call anyone attempting to collect unpaid fines or fees for legal matters,” the post reads.

Anyone who receives such a call is asked to contact their local police department.
