Firefighters battled a blaze at 121 Liberty St. in McDonald Friday evening.

A woman was treated for smoke inhalation Friday after a fire at her residence in McDonald.

Phil Boggs, McDonald fire chief, said crews were dispatched to the home at 121 Liberty St. shortly after 8:30 p.m.

“I pulled up on scene and there was smoke coming from the rear of the structure and there were two houses nearby,” Boggs said. “One was less than 10 feet away, so we had some concerns about exposures. Luckily, it never spread to any of the nearby houses.”

Boggs said the woman was the lone resident of the home and suffered minor smoke inhalation.

“She had gone back in to get the dog,” Boggs said. “She was able to get him out safely. He’s OK. She was OK when we got her into the ambulance. I haven’t gotten any updates since then.”

Boggs said the fire originated in a bedroom at the rear of the house and crews had it under control in about 30 minutes.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the state police fire marshal.

“We were pretty much able to keep it contained to the room where it started and the room that was adjacent to it,” Boggs said. “We didn’t have any real complications. It was a quick knockdown and everyone did a fantastic job.”

Joining the McDonald Volunteer Fire Department at the scene were firefighters from Midway, Mt. Pleasant Township, Cecil Township No. 3, Oakdale and Sturgeon as well as North Strabane for its Rapid Intervention Team. Also on hand were Fort Cherry Ambulance Services and McDonald police.
