1 min read

The Canon-McMillan School District identified the victim of a fire Sunday night in North Strabane Township as a high school senior.

The fire started at about 11:20 p.m. Sunday in the 4000 block of Bentwood Drive. The fire was contained to a single room and was quickly extinguished. The teenage victim was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment.

“A house fire occurred (Sunday) night in North Strabane Township that has affected one of our Canon-McMillan families. A senior who attends the high school was severely injured, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” said Canon-McMillan Superintendent Michael Daniels in an emailed statement.

The fire remains under investigation by the state police fire marshal. North Strabane fire Chief Rich Yosi said Monday that state police believe it started accidentally. He declined to identify the victim.

Washington, Peters Township and Canonsburg fire departments also responded.
