Two-vehicle accident in South Strabane sends three to hospitals

By Paul Paterra 2 min read

Three people were transported to hospitals after a two-vehicle accident in South Strabane Township Friday morning.

Jordan Cramer, South Strabane fire chief, said the accident occurred at about 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of North Main Street and Humbert Lane.

“One of the vehicles ended up quite a few yards from the original incident and included the ejection of one of the occupants,” Cramer said. “We had three patients that ended up being transported, one who was in critical condition and two others who were in more stable condition.”

Cramer described the patient in critical condition as a “younger female.” She was taken to UPMC Washington Hospital. The other two patients were taken to UPMC Presbyterian via ambulance.

When first responders arrived, Cramer said, bystanders were already providing care to several patients from the crash. Friday afternoon, he acknowledged the medical staff from Applegate Recovery on North Main Street who heard the incident and rendered care, including CPR, to patients until the arrival of fire and EMS units.

“Their actions will have an exponential effect on the outcome of this incident,” Cramer said.

As a result of the accident, North Main Street was closed for a time from McClane to Humbert but reopened before noon.

Along with the South Strabane Fire Department, township police and Washington Ambulance and Chair Service were on scene.

South Strabane Township and state police are investigating.
