Arrest warrant filed in Chartiers Township man’s drug overdose death
A Chartiers Township man is charged with supplying counterfeit pills that contained a lethal dose of fentanyl that killed a man in April.
Chartiers Township police filed felony charges of drug delivery resulting in death Tuesday against Matthew Logan Rozanc in connection with the fatal overdose of Joshua Kinser.
According to court documents, Rozanc drove to Kinser’s residence in the 700 block of Ridge Avenue in Chartiers Township and sold him what the victim thought was oxycodone pain medication. But in text messages between the two men in the days leading up to the overdose, Rozanc allegedly told Kinser they were “super blue” or “blues,” which police said are typically counterfeit pain pills that contain fentanyl.
The body of Kinser, who was living in a recreational vehicle on his family’s Ridge Avenue property in Chartiers Township, was discovered by a relative checking on him April 24. Police said the relative immediately knew Kinser had died, so he called 911 and police officers and medics were sent to the scene.
Police found the text message conversations with a person using Rozanc’s phone number, according to court documents. Relatives at the Ridge Avenue home also provided security camera videos, which appeared to show Rozanc pulling up in his vehicle and going into Kinser’s RV on April 21, according to court documents.
An autopsy of Kinser revealed he had a high level of fentanyl in his bloodstream at the time of his death, along with other substances, including gabapentin, police said.
Chartiers Township police charged Rozanc, 20, of Longvue Drive, with felony counts of drug delivery resulting in death, possession with intent to deliver and criminal use of a communication facility.
An arrest warrant was filed Tuesday at District Judge Michael Mandredi’s office, and police are now looking for Rozanc. Anyone with information on Rozanc’s location is asked to call Chartiers Township police at 724-745-8030.
