Washington woman charged in assault of children, officer
Washington police charged a city woman with multiple felonies of aggravated assault Monday after she was accused of attacking two children with a hammer and board.
Police were called to the Fayette Street home of Rosa Abraham, 37, shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday. A witness, who police described as a Good Samaritan, told police that one of the youngsters ran out of the home screaming that Abraham was “trying to kill my sister.” Police said the witness went into the house and removed the other child.
Charging documents do not make clear the relationship between Abraham and the children, nor does it provide their ages.
Abraham is accused of hitting the witness in the head with a hammer, and chased her outside. Once outside, investigators said Abraham began hitting herself in the head with the hammer. The witness did not sustain any serious injuries and did not require treatment.
When officers arrived, they found Abraham lying on the sidewalk with blood on her face. According to the criminal complaint, she lunged at a Washington police officer, grabbed his legs and attempted to bite him. She continued to fight with police after being handcuffed, court documents state.
Both children were transported to UPMC Children’s Hospital for treatment. One of the children told investigators that Abraham tried to drown him in the bathtub.
Abraham faces multiple felonies of aggravated assault along with misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment and simple assault.
According to online court records, Abraham has not been arraigned on the charges. She was in UPMC Washington Hospital on Tuesday, according to Washington County District Attorney Jason Walsh.
