State police tout more than 50 arrests during DUI enforcement
More than 50 drunken drivers were arrested over the weekend during a state police-led training program.
The state police Washington barracks issued a press release Monday that states “Operation Nighthawk” led to officers arresting 54 drivers for driving under the influence, 35 for possession of controlled substances and another six for underage drinking.
According to the release, the enforcement detail included more than 50 police officers from police departments in North Strabane, South Strabane and Chartiers townships, as well as state police troopers.
State police said the program is a combination of classroom instruction, DUI case law workshops and roving patrols.
In addition to the arrests, there were 356 traffic stops with 255 citations issued.
