Carroll Township man pleads guilty to vicious attack on mother, girlfriend
The Carroll Township man who attacked his mother and girlfriend inside the home the three of them shared together last year, leaving both with severe injuries, pleaded guilty to assaulting the women.
Wayne Morris Fedrick, 53, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Washington County Court of Common Pleas to felony charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault and was immediately sentenced by Judge Brandon Neuman to serve 10 to 20 years in state prison.
Carroll Township police were called to Fedrick’s home at 83 Grant Road on Sept. 2 after receiving reports of a blood-soaked woman standing outside calling for help. The woman was Fedrick’s girlfriend, Heather Ferguson, who told officers that he had beaten her and his mother hours earlier, leaving them both severely injured.
Police went into the home and found 78-year-old Madlynn Fedrick lying on the living room floor with her face and body both bloodied and swollen.
Officers found the suspect passed out in the basement and immediately arrested him.
Investigators said an argument between Fedrick and his mother preceded the attack. He threw his mother to the floor and kicked her while she was lying on the ground. Ferguson tried to get her boyfriend to stop, but he threw her into the kitchen sink.
When she stepped in front of the older woman, Fedrick picked up Ferguson by the chin and threw her to the ground before kicking her in the head 15 to 20 times. He then threw Ferguson down the steps and beat her over the head with a mirror and television.
Ferguson suffered a broken orbital bone in her right eye and has permanent paralysis of her pupil in that eye that’s led to some loss of vision. She also suffered a concussion and 30 lacerations on her head. Madlynn Fedrick suffered numerous broken bones and head trauma from the attack.
Fedrick has been held without bond since his arrest following the attack.
