PennWest eyeing two candidates for president post
The Pennsylvania Western University Council of Trustees has approved the presidential search committee’s recommendation of two candidates for submission to the chancellor and board of governors of the Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education.
Dr. Jon Anderson, provost and vice president for academic affairs/professor at Southern Utah University (Cedar City, Utah), and Dr. Philip Cavalier, provost and senior vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Tennessee at Martin (Tennessee) are being considered to fill the position now held by interim President R. Lorraine “Laurie” Bernotsky, who is leaving June 30.
Anderson also has served as provost and vice president of academic affairs at Middle Georgia State University and the University of West Georgia. He’s also held administrative positions at the University of Kentucky.
Prior to joining UTM, Cavalier was provost and vice president of academic services at Lyon College in Batesville, Ark., provost and dean of the college at Eureka (Ill.) College and dean of general education at Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C.
System-level interviews will be conducted in the coming weeks, so the new president can be appointed by the board of governors later this month, in time for a July 1 start.
