One woman died and another was injured following a shooting in Uniontown Sunday night.
Uniontown police have charged Andrew Maurice Howard, 21, of Uniontown, with homicide and additional felonies of aggravated assault and prohibited possession of a firearm. According to court records, Howard is currently hospitalized with a gunshot wound and has not been arraigned.
Police were called to the Something Different bar at 56 Austin St. at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Charging documents accuse Howard of shooting both Shaquisa Sims and Jasmine Johnson.
Sims, 32, of Uniontown, was transported to WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital where she was pronounced dead about an hour later, according to Fayette County Coroner Bob Baker. Baker said in a Facebook post that Sims died of injuries from a gunshot wound and that her death has been ruled a homicide.
Witnesses identified Howard as the shooter. Johnson, 29, suffered a gunshot wound to her left wrist. Court records describe Johnson as Howard’s girlfriend. Police recovered three 9mm shell casings at the scene.
Howard initially fled the scene on foot but later arrived at Uniontown Hospital with a gunshot wound. Uniontown police public information officer Tom Kolencik said it is not currently clear how Howard was shot.
Howard also faces misdemeanor charges of simple assault, reckless endangerment and possession of an instrument of crime.
