A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday morning after colliding with a garbage truck in North Strabane Township.

The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. on McClelland Road at Village Drive near Route 19 in the township, according to the Washington County coroner’s office.

Robert Martin Klein, 58, of McDonald, was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner’s office. Klein was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and the cause and manner of his death are pending the results of an autopsy.

McClelland Road was closed for several hours while North Strabane police officers and state police troopers investigated the crash. Firefighters from North Strabane and Peters Township assisted at the scene and helped to clear wreckage from the roadway.

The name of the garbage truck driver and whether anyone on that rig was injured were not immediately released. North Strabane police did not return a phone message seeking comment on the crash.
