Ohio man arrested in Amwell stabbing
State police arrested an Ohio man after he was accused of stabbing a coworker in Amwell Township.
Wilbert Caraveo Torruco, 44, of Carrollton, faces a felony charge of aggravated assault.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called about 8 a.m. Wednesday to a gas well owned by Frontier Environmental Service at 205 Johnston Road after Torruco allegedly slashed Juan Carlos Ortiz in the thigh with a box cutter. Ortiz was transported to Washington Hospital, where he received about two dozen stitches.
Ortiz told police that he was seated behind Torruco on the passenger side of a work truck. The stabbing stemmed from a dispute over Torruco reclining the front passenger seat, court documents state.
According to the complaint, both the driver and another passenger corroborated Ortiz’s versions of events. A Frontier Environmental Services employee provided police with footage from a camera inside the truck.
Torruco was arraigned Wednesday afternoon before District Judge John Bruner, who sent him to the Washington County jail on $300,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 10.
