Waynesburg woman arrested after dead dogs found in home
Waynesburg police charged a woman Thursday after officers found two dead dogs in her home.
Jennifer Marie Fisher, 48, faces six felonies of aggravated cruelty to animals, and a dozen misdemeanors of cruelty and neglect of animals.
According to the criminal complaint, at about 5 p.m. Wednesday a neighbor in the 300 block of Ross Street called 911 to report that he had not seen Fisher in two or three weeks. Officers knocked on her door and heard what sounded like a distressed dog barking inside. They also detected a strong odor coming from the house.
Charging documents state that police returned a few hours later with a search warrant. Investigators found a malnourished Chihuahua in the kitchen. In a cage upstairs was a dead pit bull. Police said there was no food or water in the cage.
Another dog was found dead as well. Police described the home as being covered in urine and feces.
Police contacted Fisher and learned she was staying at the Quality Inn in Waynesburg, where she was taken into custody.
District Judge Lee Watson sent Fisher to the Greene County jail on $40,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. Nov. 6.
