It looks as if Canonsburg residents will be facing a slight tax increase in 2025.

Council unanimously approved advertising a tentative $6,662,043 spending plan Tuesday that shows slight increases in the general fund and the fire tax.

Borough Manager Billie Bilko said the millage for the general fund has been increased by .1 of a mill to 3.84 mills in the tentative budget and the fire tax is hiked .164 mills. The budget’s total millage in the tentative spending plan is 5.028 mills.

Bilko said if this budget is approved as is, the annual tax increase for the average homeowner would be less than $40.

She added that work will take place before a final budget is adopted in December.

“We still have time to make a few adjustments, if necessary,” Bilko said.

Also Tuesday, Mayor Dave Rhome recognized School Resource Officer Carl Fetcko and Pam Jox, special education paraeducator at South Central Elementary School, for their efforts in locating a 2-year-old girl who strayed several blocks from her home Oct. 31 to South Central Avenue, a busy borough roadway. The child was unharmed.

“These two folks used their knowledge and intelligence to work together,” Rhome said. “They noticed there was a little toddler in the area that was really out of place. These two went into action, they grabbed the 2-year old, brought her into the school and started the due diligence with the other officers from the Canonsburg Police Department.

“Thank you for doing what you do. You made a difference in a little child’s life.”
