Richeyville firefighters didn’t have to travel far for a single-vehicle crash Saturday morning.

A motorist trying to avoid debris on Richeyville Road in Centerville Borough lost control of her vehicle and struck one of the fire department’s garage bays about 11:30 a.m., Richeyville firefighters said.

The car pushed part of the garage door inward and dislodged the track, forcing firefighters to beat the damaged metal back into place and secure it with wooden boards.

The vehicle’s front end was heavily damaged, but the brick façade of the fire hall was mostly unscathed.

Two women in the vehicle were injured in the crash and taken to UPMC Washington Hospital for treatment, firefighters said. Their identities, conditions and the severity of their injuries were not released.

The department placed a “DO NOT OPEN!” sign on the garage door opener while they wait for a company to fix the damage, which likely will be covered by the motorist’s insurance. No fire department vehicles were damaged in the incident.

Centerville police could not be reached for comment Sunday to discuss details on the crash.
