Sheatler sworn-in as Washington County’s acting controller

Heather Sheatler was sworn in Tuesday morning as Washington County’s acting controller to replace April Sloane, who officially exited her row office position Monday.
Sheatler, who has worked in the county controller’s office for 22 years and most recently served as deputy controller, took the oath of office from President Judge Gary Gilman and is expected to serve Sloane’s remaining term that will expire in January 2025.
“I look forward to handling the duties of this office for many years to come and serving the people of this county with the same dedication that has guided me throughout my career,” Sheatler said in a written statement.
The Blaine Township resident takes over for Sloane after she agreed to resign from office upon pleading guilty Sept. 5 to felony animal cruelty charges for the starvation death of her pet dog, Thor, last year.
