Mt. Pleasant Township police arrested an Oakdale man Thursday night following a pursuit that briefly crossed into West Virginia and ended in a crash.

David Bradwell, 36, faces a felony charge of fleeing or attempting to elude an office and misdemeanors of driving under the influence and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

According to the criminal complaint, Bradwell was traveling at about 40 mph in a 25 mph zone on Donaldson Road shortly after 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police attempted to pull his vehicle over in the 1100 block of Burgettstown Road, but he continued to drive at a “high rate of speed,” according to charging documents.

Bradwell is accused of driving on the wrong side of the road, nearly hitting guardrails around turns and using parking lots to make U-turns in an attempt to evade police.

According to the complaint, Bradwell drove in a loop in Smith Township before turning onto Cross Creek Road and heading toward Independence Township.

Bradwell used winding back roads to avoid apprehension, crossing the border into Brooke County, W.Va., police said. He re-entered Pennsylvania, crashing his vehicle into a utility pole on Brush Run Road in Independence Township at 12:15 a.m. Friday.

Initially, police could not access his vehicle due to low hanging wires.

Bradwell was taken to an area hospital for treatment and consented to a blood draw. Police learned the vehicle Bradwell was driving belonged to his aunt, and that there was a warrant for his arrest out of Allegheny County for fleeing and eluding.

Bradwell was arraigned Friday morning before District Judge Louis McQuillan, who sent him to the Washington County jail without bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Oct. 25.
