1 min read

State police arrested a Canton Township man Sunday morning after neighbors discovered puppies in his trash can.

Franklin Donley, 53, faces felony charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and several misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty and animal neglect.

According to state police, troopers were called to Donley’s 327 Beacon Ave. home at about 9:30 a.m. when neighbors reported hearing dogs crying from a trash can.

In the garbage can were four pit bull puppies inside plastic grocery bags. State police said one of the puppies had died, while neighbors were able to perform life-saving measures on the surviving dogs.

The three puppies suffered serious injuries to their legs and were awaiting surgery, according to police.

Donley was arraigned Sunday morning before District Judge Mark Wilson, who sent him to the Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. Oct. 28.
