Taste Tour of Washington County raises funds for Food Helpers’ LittleMoochi program
The World Tent at Hollywood Casino at the Meadows was aglow late last week as more than guests gathered for the inaugural Taste Tour of Washington County, hosted by Food Helpers, a division of Greater Washington County Food Bank.
The epicurean adventure raised funds for LittleMoochi, a Food Helpers program that delivered more than 64,000 snack packs to children in Washington County school districts in 2023-24 school year.
The event showcased mouthwatering appetizers, entrees, desserts, and pastries from about 20 of the area’s finest food and beverage establishments. Along with good food, the night featured music entertainment, a silent auction, and a bloom bar where guests created bouquets of seasonal flowers.
“We thank the sponsors and the attendees for their generosity enabling us to raise sufficient funds to provide LittleMoochie to more schools in Washington County this school year,” said George Omiros, President and CEO of Food Helpers.
Food Helpers, in partnership with corporate and community leaders, works to reduce food insecurity for children in Washington County. The LittleMoochi program cost $252,000 during the 2023-24 school year. The cost to expand the program to all school districts in Washington County will be $60,000 a month, or $540,000 for the school year.
The LittleMoochi app was designed by graduate students at Carnegie Mellon University to teach healthy eating habits by having children feed a virtual “Moochi” pet, but it also fills a gap for food insecure children in Washington County.
