Chartiers-Houston Marching Band to host annual band festival on Sept. 7

By kmansfield@observer-reporter.com 2 min read

The Chartiers-Houston Buccaneer Marching Band will host its annual band festival on Saturday, Sept. 7.

Seven other area high school marching bands will join the Buccaneer Band for an evening of song, field formations, drumlines and more. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the first band taking the field at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the general public can be purchased at the door for $10, while a student ticket is $5. The event will take place outdoors at Chartiers-Houston JR/SR High School’s Buccaneer Stadium, 2020 W. Pike Street, Houston.

The 87-member band, under the direction of Robert Smokovich, will open the evening with its pre-game set, including the national anthem, and close the night’s activities with its decade-themed field show. Other bands participating include Bishop Canevin, Burgettstown, Canon-McMillan, Chartiers-Valley, Fort Cherry, Keystone Oaks and South Fayette.

There will be opportunities to support the bands. Shout-outs, or special notes from friends and families, can be read from the press box microphone, and candy-grams can be purchased and given to individual band members at the end of the evening.

There will be a concession stand, bake sale and 50/50 drawing, among other fundraising ventures. Money raised will help support the Buccaneer Marching Band.
