Tourism agency awards $150k to seven entities in Washington County
The Washington County Tourism Promotion Agency has allocated grants totaling more than $150,000 to seven entities.
The grants were awarded to public and private organizations for both marketing and capital projects for next year’s tourism season that include historical, cultural and entertainment organizations.
The grants are begin given to the following groups: $40,000 to Canonsburg Educational & Cultural Institute for comprehensive site evaluation and developmental plan; $35,000 to Sarris Candies, Inc. to promote visitor interest and events at its new production facility; $20,000 to the National Pike Trail Council to install lighting within a 1,000-foot curved tunnel along the trail; $20,000 to the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum to install swinging door operators to meet ADA standards; $20,000 to the Washington County Historical Society to restore the main hallway and staircase of the LeMoyne House; $8,480 to County Home Shows to promote visitation to the 2025 Washington County Home Show; and $6,750 to Burgettstown Borough to promote cycling in Hillman State Park and the Panhandle Trail.
“Our strategy of long-term advertising and capital investment combined with optimizing short-term opportunities enables us to be a leader in the Greater Pittsburgh Region’s tourism economy,” Tourism President Jeff Kotula said in a written statement. “In fact, this strategy has positioned Washington County directly behind Allegheny County in terms of tourism, economic impact and jobs.”
The tourism agency has awarded a total of $533,205 in grants this year.
