Unlawful contact with minor: Nicolas Edward Vorhes, 31, of Cecil Township, was charged Thursday by state police with distributing explicit sexual material to a minor, unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of minors. According to the criminal complaint, the now 16-year-old victim reported that Vorhes had contacted them in 2018. The teen’s mother began texting Vorhes, posing as her child. Vorhes is accused of sending sexually explicit pictures of himself, believing they were being sent to an 11-year-old. Charging documents state he sent a message saying he was “on his way” to meet the youth but never arrived. There is an active warrant for Vorhes’ arrest.

Animal cruelty: Krystle Denise Mitchell, 36, of Ellsworth, was charged Thursday by state police with aggravated cruelty to animals and cruelty to animals. According to the criminal complaint, at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday police were called to investigate potential animal cruelty at Mitchell’s home in the 100 block of Poplar Street. Police said behind the home were two rottweilers and a mastiff reportedly tied to a wooden post in a way that restricted their movement and breathing. According to the complaint, their surroundings were unsanitary and they had no access to water. District Judge Curtis Thompson released Mitchell on $50,000 unsecured bond.
