Four Washington firefighters face disciplinary action
Four members of the Washington Fire Department are facing disciplinary action.
On the agenda for Thursday’s City Council meeting are motions to terminate the employment of two firefighters, demote another from the rank of captain and give another firefighter two weeks of unpaid suspension and a 60-day period of overtime ineligibility. If approved, each of the motions will take effect Friday.
Neither Mayor JoJo Burgess nor Fire Chief Chris Richer would offer details concerning the disciplinary actions, nor were the firefighters identified.
“It’s an internal personnel matter,” Richer said. “We’re not publicly releasing any details at this time out of respect to the individuals’ due process and employee rights.”
Other unrelated fire department actions on Thursday’s agenda include swearing in firefighter William Koker and promoting a member of the department to engineer.
Other motions on Thursday’s agenda include accepting the retirement of police Capt. Von Lacock after more than 23 years with the department, and extending health-care coverage for outgoing City Administrator Donn Henderson through June 30. Henderson is retiring April 12. Rich Cleveland was hired in March as the new city administrator.
