A Brownsville woman who pleaded guilty to locking her 6-year-old daughter naked in a dog cage and physically abusing the girl will serve 30 to 60 years in state prison.

That sentence is 5 to 10 years less than Mimi Frost, 34, was initially sentenced to on Dec. 10.

In an order filed last month, Fayette County Judge Joseph M. George Jr. indicated he intended to sentence Frost to 30 to 60 years in state prison as opposed to the 35-to-70-year sentence he imposed. George modified the sentence to remove the 5 to 10 years he imposed for one count of unlawful restraint.

The modification of Frost’s sentence was the result of a motion filed by her attorney, Assistant Public Defender Gregory Kunkel. The motion also contended that the overall sentence was too high; however, George disagreed.

The judge ruled the sentence was not “unduly harsh or excessive,” noting he explained his reasoning for the aggravated-range sentence on Dec. 10.

At the time, George told Frost that she was tasked with caring for her daughter and “violated that duty in a particularly cruel manner.”

Frost and the child’s father, Jacob Weight, 38, of Brownsville, were charged after police were called to the couple’s home on Sheridan Avenue in January 2024 because the 6-year-old was unresponsive.

According to police, the child appeared malnourished and had bruises and open sores on her body. A report from Children’s Hospital described the girl as being “severely hypothermic” with a temperature below 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

She also had broken and rotten teeth, swollen feet, and had not received pediatric care in more than three years.

After pleading guilty to the abuse in February, Weight was sentenced to 10 to 26 years by Judge Steve P. Leskinen, who said he took into consideration that Weight was the one who called for help after the child started convulsing on the day she was taken to the hospital. Leskinen also noted that prior testimony given by one of the couple’s other children indicated that Frost was the primary antagonist.
